Research - Policy Partnerships
Nathan Harrison, Senior Research Officer, NCETA recently took part as a panellist in the Maximising Impact from Research – Policy Partnerships Masterclass, convened by the Centre for Health in All Policies Research Translation (and jointly based at Health Translation SA and the School of Public Health, University of Adelaide). The course aimed to improve collaboration between researchers and policy makers, support improved translation of research into policy and practice, and lead to the creation of better public policy. It was attended by both academics and researchers working across a range of disciplines, and policy actors from government and the non- government sector.
The panel discussed the translation of evidence into policy, practice and on the ground impact – and the critical skills and tools required by both researchers and policy makers to develop evidence-based policy. Nathan was pleased to reflect on NCETA’s policy-relevant research, including a recent collaborative project on zero-alcohol product marketing with the Centre for Health in All Policies Research Translation’s Director, A/Prof Carmel Williams, and the importance of consumer and community engagement in identifying areas of research priority. The panel also comprised Dr Helen Barrie (UniSA), Kathy Williams (Office for Ageing Well), Dr Rebecca Tooher (South Australian Council of Social Service), and Wendy Keech (Health Translation SA), and was chaired by Kirsty Hammet from the South Australian Department for Health and Wellbeing.
