NHMRC and MRFF funding success for NCYSUR researchers
NCYSUR PhD graduate Dr Carmen Lim was awarded an NHMRC Investigator Grant for “Breaking the Cycle: Leveraging Social Media to Address the Public Health Threat of Youth Vaping”. Carmen’s Emerging Leader Fellowship was awarded before her PhD. See UQ News item here.
First year PhD student Mr Ben Johnson was awarded an NHMRC Postgraduate Scholarship for “Learning from the opioid crisis - Preventing the proliferation of prescription stimulant for non-medical use”.
Senior Research Fellow Dr Daniel Stjepanović and PhD candidate Ms Tianze Sun were awarded an NHMRC Ideas Grant: “Monitoring Nicotine: Triangulating Social Media, Global Survey and Wastewater Data to Inform Future Vaping and Smoking Policies (2024–2028)” with colleagues at UQ QAEHS and University of Waterloo, Canada.
Professor Leanne Hides and Associate Professor Gary Chan were awarded MRFF grants under the 2023 Maternal Health and Healthy Lifestyle scheme. Leanne is leading the interdisciplinary team of UQ investigators including Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning) Professor Doune Macdonald and colleagues from the School of Psychology and the Centre for the Business and Economics of Health on the “QuikFix Good Night Out Program: A New Social Network Targeted Approach to Reducing Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Use and Related Harm in Young University Students”. Gary is collaborating with colleagues at NCYSUR, University of Waterloo, Griffith University and The Matilda Centre on “Unclouding the Future: Igniting Change with an AI-Powered Media Campaign Against Youth Vaping”.
