The latest findings from a range of Australian and international alcohol and illicit drug research, plus a practical workshop focused on consumer and stakeholder engagement in research, are features of the 2021 National Drug Research Institute (NDRI) symposium.

For the first time, the NDRI symposium will be available for virtual and in-person attendance, at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on October 6.

The program includes presentations and panel sessions on research into alcohol and illicit drug policy, harm, prevention and trends as well as partnership approaches to addressing alcohol and other drug (AOD) harm in Aboriginal communities.

While symposium attendees will hear from established world leaders in AOD research, the symposium will also ‘give a voice’ to early career and PhD scholars producing innovative work as well as community partners and consumers of NDRI’s research. It is also an opportunity (COVID permitting) to meet NDRI researchers and to network in person.

Program highlights include a keynote presentation and panel discussion on minimum alcohol pricing, engaging consumers in research, understanding youth drinking trends, increasing use of nitrous oxide, treatment access for methamphetamine smokers, how the alcohol industry attempts to influence policy, First Nations-led policy development and school-based alcohol harm reduction.
