International fellow presents on lived experience, values and drug policy
NDRI hosted an international research fellow speaking on lived experience and drug policy as its final webinar for 2023.
Manchester Metropolitan University’s Dr Rebecca Askew joined the Drug Policy Modelling Program at UNSW in May 2022 for an 18-month Leverhulme International Fellowship to research values connected to drug policy, using data from the UK Drug Policy Voices project.
Rebecca detailed her Fellowship journey including the challenges of synthesising multi-method qualitative data, a critical reflection on the meaning of ‘lived experience’ in alcohol and other drug research, how researching values has advanced knowledge about the attitudinal tension and complexity within drug policy debates, and the key policy messages emerging from these findings.
