This weekend I will… eat some tacos and watch my favourite band play. I’ve just moved to Melbourne, so in my free time, I will be eating, gigging, and learning the rules to AFL.
I’d originally planned to work… as a dietitian, but my motivations were a little selfish and I didn’t think they would get me through four years of chemistry.
If I had more time, I'd... hopefully not waste it.
The qualities I most value in my colleagues are…unconditional compassion and a good sense of humour. My favourite colleagues are great at tempering their own judgement and making me laugh.
Career wise, I’m most proud of... starting a PhD with very little expectation on how it was going to turn out.
My big hope for the drug and alcohol sector is... more funding, an expansion of effective services, and that improving quality of life becomes a focus rather than a bonus.
The sector's biggest challenge going forward is... an immediate challenge I think is balancing progress in decriminalisation and legalisation of drugs with adequate support for people who experience harm from those drugs. A long-standing challenge is creating care options that are affordable, accessible, and effective that also promote improved quality of life.
I’m most looking forward to… me and my husband had a COVID wedding ceremony in November but finally get to celebrate with our friends and family in April – so definitely that.
