NCETA joins the International Confederation of Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drug (ATOD) Research Associations (ICARA)

NCETA has recently joined ICARA as an affiliate member. ICARA is an international, nongovernment, multidisciplinary and organisation that brings together research societies to promote ATOD science through professional exchange, collaboration and action. It provides a collaborating network, support structures and learning opportunities for research societies across the globe.

Through its membership of ICARA, NCETA will continue to enhance its international profile by sharing its extensive research expertise, findings and resources on workforce development, research dissemination and addressing AOD-related workplace issues to other researchers globally.

NCETA and ICARA share complementary aims and objectives and examples of similar activities undertaken by both organisations include:

  • Information exchange e.g. conference and seminar presentations, websites, and other communication media including social media
  • Education and workforce development e.g., raising awareness about workforce development, supporting professional education and training and providing web-based education and training
  • Research translation e.g., activities aimed at translating research into practice; communicating, facilitating, promoting and representing addiction science in international fora.

The President of ICARA is Professor Thomas Babor and its members include APSAD, International Network on Brief Interventions for Alcohol & Other Drugs (INEBRIA), Kettil Bruun Society for Social and Epidemiological Research on Alcohol (KBS), International Society of Addiction Journal Editors (ISAJE) and Alcohol Research UK.
