This is a collaborative project between the Southern Aboriginal Corporation and the National Drug Research Institute. Utilising a community consultation process, this study will identify risk and resilience factors and opportunities for intervention and enable an Aboriginal community controlled organisation to develop an evidence-based strategy to address the harmful effects of substance use at a local level.

There is currently intense interest in finding efficient and reliable ways to inform evidence-based liquor licensing decisions. This multi-stage project will develop a model to assist in predicting the likely impacts of proposed/planned licensing changes on a range of alcohol-related indicators (e.g. emergency department presentations, road crashes, assaults) within WA and other Australian jurisdictions.

Aboriginal Australians experience a disproportionately high burden of alcohol-related injury and violence compared to the general population.These elevated rates of alcohol-related harm among Aboriginal Australians require a targeted approach. This project will examine the cost-effectiveness of a community empowerment and positive reinforcement intervention for reducing alcohol-related injury and violence among Aboriginal people.
