Winners announced for the 2016 NDARC Awards

NDARC has acknowledged the outstanding work of four staff members via the 2016 NDARC Awards.
Held annually, the awards recognise the achievements of staff members across all levels of the organisation. The 2016 awards were presented by NDARC Director, Professor Michael Farrell, and founding Chairman of NDARC’s Advisory Board, the Hon. Kevin Rozzoli.
Congratulations to the following recipients:
The Margaret Hamilton Award for Outstanding Research Achievement
Dr Amy Peacock
Dr Peacock is a National Health and Medical Research Council Early Career Fellow at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre, and a Research Fellow in the School of Medicine, University of Tasmania.
The Ian Webster Award for Outstanding Research Achievement
Dr Suzanne Nielsen
Dr Nielsen is a National Health and Medical Research Council Translating Research into Practice Fellow. Her research will embed screening, brief intervention and referral into community pharmacy practice, to address the treatment needs of clients dependent on prescribed and over-the-counter opioids.
The Jennifer McLaren Award for Outstanding Research Achievement
Ms Alexandra Aiken
Ms Aiken is a Senior Research Officer currently working on a large scale longitudinal study, the Drinking and Teens project. She also coordinates the NSW arm of the Young Australians Alcohol Reporting System (YAARS).
The Kevin Rozzoli Community Impact Award
Ms Mieke Snijder
Ms Snijder recently completed a PhD evaluating community-based interventions aimed at reducing alcohol-related harms in Aboriginal communities, supervised by Professor Anthony Shakeshaft. She is now working with the Centre of Research Excellence (CRE) in Mental Health and Substance Use.
The Margaret Hamilton, Ian Webster and Jennifer McLaren Awards acknowledge the achievements of NDARC staff whose research has been outstanding. Winners are determined through the NDARC Research Support Scheme, a measure of research output including peer reviewed publications and grant applications.
The Kevin Rozzoli Impact Award acknowledges NDARC staff whose research has significant community impact. Nominees must show evidence of public health impact (such as a change in practice or policy) and the transfer of research findings for the wider benefit of the community.
