Research centres strengthen links with NGO peaks

November 2014

The directors of the three national research centres met with the representatives of seven of the eight non-government organisation (NGO) alcohol and other drug (AOD) peak bodies in Canberra following a recent Intergovernmental Committee on Drugs (IGCD) consultation meeting.

The meeting was instigated by the peak bodies in order to build on existing partnerships and collaborations.

It was agreed the centres and peak bodies would identify a range of ways in which they could work more closely together including exploring opportunities for collaborative research; options for making the research centres’ findings and products more accessible to the peak bodies and the non-government sector; and options for strengthening the NGO sectors' understanding, interpretation, and application of research findings.

Both groups welcomed this opportunity for greater collaboration.
