Parliamentary Joint Committee on Law Enforcement

August 2015

The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Law Enforcement initiated an inquiry into crystal methamphetamine (Ice) in March 2015. In particular, the Committee examined the criminal activities, practices and methods involved in the importation, manufacture, distribution and use of methamphetamine and its chemical precursors, including crystal methamphetamine (ice) and its impact on Australian society.

Professor Roche attended (via teleconference) the Mount Gambier public hearing of the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Law Enforcement. She responded to Senators’ questions about the prevalence and impact of methamphetamine use in the community, the confounders which contribute to problematic use, and the policy, intervention, and treatment options available. Read the Hansard transcription of Senate questions and Professor Roche’s responses here

The inquiry is continuing. For more information, please see the Parliament of Australia website

NB: This inquiry is not related to the Prime Minister's Ice Taskforce.
