NDARC recognised at the 2017 Alcohol and Other Drug Excellence and Innovation Awards

NDARC’s Dr Christina Marel and the Climate Schools program were recognised at the 2017 Alcohol and other Drug Excellence and Innovation Awards on 16 June 2017.

Research category

Dr Christina Marel and NDARC won in the Research category.

Dr Marel was instrumental in developing the 2016 National Comorbidity Guidelines to assist AOD workers who are frequently required to manage complex psychiatric symptoms.

The Research category recognises the importance of research within the AOD sector and its relevance and benefit to the community as a whole. Nominations in this category must add practical value to alcohol and other drug practices, be of sound design and method, meet the ethical standards for research practice and be effectively disseminated.

Prevention and Education category

NDARC was awarded Innovation in this category for the Climate Schools program. The award was accepted by Ms Louise Birrell on behalf of the Climate Schools team.

The Climate Schools programs are innovative, online, universal school-based programs that aim to prevent the use of Australia’s most commonly used licit and illicit drugs – alcohol, cannabis and psychostimulants.

The Prevention and Education award recognises programs, policies, and resources that make a significant contribution in preventing drug use and drug-related harm. Education plays a key role in preventing alcohol and other drug problems.

The Alcohol and Other Drug Excellence and Innovation Awards encourage, recognise and celebrate the achievements of the incredible people and organisations that do exceptional work to reduce the harm and impact of alcohol and other drugs in Australia.

The Alcohol and other Drug Excellence and Innovation Awards (National AOD Awards) are supported by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation and the Australian Government.
