Media interest in smoking in licensed premises research

November 2014

The National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction's (NCETA) recent paper in The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Public Health on patrons’ views about smoking in outdoor areas of licensed premises in Adelaide  garnered considerable media interest.

The Advertiser newspaper reported that there was strong support, even among smokers, for restrictions on smoking in outdoor areas of licensed premises which reflected a shift in community views about smoking in public places. The article also noted the South Australian Government’s announcement in May 2015 that smoking would be banned in all outdoor dining areas by July 2016.
