Applications open for NDARC higher degree research scholarships

Applications are now open for NDARC higher degree (HDR) scholarships (PhD, MRes and MPhil), commencing term one 2021.

NDARC is offering scholarships to students who wish to undertake higher degree research on drug and alcohol related projects that align with NDARC’s core workplan areas:

  • Prevention and early intervention
  • Clinical research
  • Physical and mental comorbidity
  • Epidemiology of substance use and harms
  • Justice health and drug policy
  • Indigenous health
  • Health economics and biostatistics
  • Family, communities and society

Scholarship award amount and duration

 The scholarship amount awarded to full-time HDR students is $30,000 per annum, tax exempt. PhD scholarship duration is three years (with the option of a six-month extension depending on progress). MRes and MPhil scholarship duration is two years. 

In addition, up to $10,000 may be available for professional development activities and up to $5,000 for other associated research costs across the period of candidature (subject to the availability of funds at the time of application). The scholarship, professional development and research support costs will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis for part-time and Masters candidates. There is opportunity for additional paid employment.

 

About the Centre

Since NDARC's inception, more than 80 students have successfully completed a HDR program of research at the Centre, with a success rate of over 90%. Currently NDARC has 25 HDR students enrolled, including three Aboriginal students and 17 female students. NDARC students and staff publish in general medical and health journals, and the most influential specialist drug and alcohol publications.

NDARC's research is multi-disciplinary in nature and of high practical relevance to governments and policy agencies, non-government organisations, providers of clinical services and communities. 

NDARC provides a highly supportive study environment with excellent facilities including desk space, regular training opportunities, computer access and statistical support.

Interviews: Week beginning 16 November 2020
Program start: Typically commencement will begin in Term 1, 2021, meaning HDRs would need to be enrolled by 15 February 2021 - later start dates are negotiable
