NDRI researchers are pleased to announce that the Australian arm of the 2020 international cannabis cultivation survey has launched online. The aim of this confidential survey is to better understand patterns of domestic cannabis cultivation, including the characteristics of cannabis growers, their reasons for growing, methods of growing, and experience with the criminal justice system – and how these factors differ across national borders.

The first wave of this survey ran in 2012-2013 and, thanks to the contribution of over 6500 growers around the world, the international network of academic researchers (also known as the Global Cannabis Cultivation Research Consortium, or GCCRC) published more than 18 scientific papers which helped challenge misleading stereotypes about cannabis growers, and informed submissions for evidence-based laws and policies regarding cannabis growing in a number of countries.

The survey is back in 2020, available in more countries and languages, and better tailored to what is happening around the world now. The Australian arm is being run by NDRI’s Professor Simon Lenton and Dr Jodie Grigg, Dr Monica Barratt at RMIT University and Michala Kowalski at NDARC, UNSW.
